Effective Communication and Communicators

    The two types of communication that I respond to the best are visual and verbal. When it comes to visual communication I usually react well to visual graphics that are well organized and concisely convey the message that is meant to get across. When those graphics also use one or more of the three principles of graphic design we talked about it makes them more memorable. One of the big reasons why I prefer visual communications is because my brain can remember graphics better than strictly just words on a paper or word of mouth. I do however find verbal communication to be very useful and important as well. In this day and age you can go to any given places and see people buried in their smartphones or some sort of device. When it comes to communicating over the phone it is much harder to emphasize emotion and other things that can only be felt with in person connection and conversation. Things can also get misconstrued and messages can get mixed so I find that verbal communication is still such an important tool. 

    When it comes to visual communication I feel that color is the most important tool. For me that is the first thing I notice about a graphic. When you see some sort of graphic from far away that is the first thing you typically notice. So the color of it has the ability to either bring you in or keep you from wanting to read it. If you look at an advertisement and the coloring on it is bland, this may cause you to think the product or service will be bland or subpar. However if the color scheme is well organized and/or vibrant, it can help the customer or consumer want to use your product or service. All visual communication tools are important but I feel that color is the most.

    One person who uses visual communication effectively is Kim Kardashian. She is an entrepreneur who has many different companies and products that she sells. She is the master of using social media to sell her products. She uses images and advertisements where she usually features herself as the model and salesperson. Most times the images and graphics that she uses are so good that they require minimal words. One company that is very good when it comes to visual communication is Nike. A lot of their advertisements feature incredible athletes in the act of doing what they are great at. This is so useful because it helps to show exactly what their products can be used for. Also it shows that if the athletes who use their products trust them and use them at the highest levels, that they are products that can be trusted and used by everyone. Another company that effectively visually communicates is Gatorade. Much like Nike they are a company that makes a product typically used by athletes. They also use athletes in their advertisements as well. Typically athletes are in very good shape and having them in their products advertisements shows that if they put this product in their body, it must be good. Their visual ads also show that these products give these athletes the fuel they need to perform their best.
